Wyoming’s Most Prestigious Fishing Challenge

Feathered Hook is proud to help our guests complete Wyoming’s most prestigious fishing challenge: the Cutt Slam. The program rewards anglers who succeed in catching all four subspecies of native Wyoming trout: the Yellowstone Cutthroat, the Snake River Cutthroat, the Bonneville Cutthroat (Bear River Cutthroat), and the Colorado Cutthroat.

These four fish originate from four different western Wyoming drainages and offer some of the best fishing experiences the state has to offer.

Yellowstone Cutthroat

Native to drainages near Yellowstone National Park including the Big Horn, Wind, and Clarks Fork rivers, the Yellowstone Cutthroat occurs in all waters within the Missouri River Drainage.

Bonneville Cutthroat

The Bonneville Cutthroat occurs in all waters within the Bear River Drainage including the Smiths Fork River, the Thomas Fork River and Sulphur Creek Reservoir. The Bonneville Cutthroat is also known as the Bear River Cutthroat.

Snake River Cutthroat

A form of Yellowstone Cutthroat native to the Snake River, the Snake River Cutthroat occurs in all waters within the Snake River drainage including the Salt River and the Greys River.

Colorado Cutthroat

The Colorado Cutthroat occurs in all waters of the Green River Drainage including the Little Snake River, the Hams Fork River and the Blacks Fork River.

Unique Location for the Challenge

Feathered Hook owns property along rivers featuring three of the four subspecies of Wyoming Trout, and is near locations to catch the Yellowstone Cutthroat. Our location and offerings provide our guests a unique opportunity to accomplish the Cutt Slam.

The Cutt Slam Project was started by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department to increase knowledge of and appreciation for the four native Wyoming trout species. Cutt Slam participants who successfully catch all four subspecies in their native range send in an application, including clear photographs of the four fish, to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. Throughout the program’s existence, only about 1,000 people have officially completed a Cutt Slam. Successful applicants receive a color certificate of the four-subspecies from the state and serious bragging rights at the bar.
